The clear anonimity of the project site, on the edge of the town of Caraglio, imposes a careful consideration about the relationship between the new school complex and the existing context. The result is a new system that interacts with the surrounding by continuity and increasing the ordinary specifities of a school with those of a collective place, but without ignoring the proper and innovative character of a new community complex. The catalyst of this new urban relationship, as well as project cornerstone, is the ‘dorsal’, a longitudinal element that houses common services and logistics for the whole complex.
It represents the spinal column, the nerve centre of the school complex. It functions in double position: the ‘urban’ part, as a bridge that repairs two extreme edges of the territory, and the ‘functional’ part as a versatile element in service of the school, housing a new hierarchy of spaces and functions intended to vitalize the single parts of the system. The ‘dorsal’ brings life to a new organism divided into open and closed spaces, defined by squares, meeting places, paths and green areas in contact with the surrounding.

The attention paid to the spaces for cultural activities and events, for sports and for living in nature, gives to the school complex a clear urban appearance, distant from the classical image of exclusive place for learning, determined to be a centre of aggregation and socialization for whole community.
